私にとってピアノとは、呼吸をするような感覚で、常に側にあります。
しかし、ピアノを演奏できますのは、本当に多くの方々の支えがあってのことです。
演奏をするには、幼少期からの長い時間の練習が必要であり、数十年に亘るピアノの恩師の先生方の心温まる励ましや、幼稚園、小学校、中学校、高校の恩師の先生方の優しいお言葉や温かい眼差し、多くの友人達の支え、周りの方々の応援がありましたからこそ、演奏ができます。
また、英国で、私のピアノを聴き、多くのコンサートを開いて下さった方々、音楽院へ進む勇気を下さった恩師の出会い、また、王立音楽院で心温まるご指導を下さった先生方のお陰で、今、演奏することができると思っております。
ピアノの演奏を通して、聴いていただく方の心が安らかになったり、リラックスできることがありましたら幸いです。

For me, the piano is as natural as breathing—an ever-present companion throughout my life.
However, my ability to perform has been made possible only through the support of many individuals. Years of dedicated study since early childhood, together with the consistent guidance and encouragement of my piano teachers over decades, have formed the foundation of my musical path. I am also deeply grateful for the teachers who supported me from kindergarten through high school, as well as for the friends and many others whose encouragement and kindness have accompanied me along the way.
Furthermore, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the many people in the UK who supported my playing and organised concert opportunities for me, to the teacher whose encouragement gave me the confidence to pursue a career at a music conservatoire, and to the wonderful teachers at the Royal Academy of Music and across the UK for their warm guidance and inspiration. All of these encounters and experiences have been truly invaluable in shaping my music career.
Through my performances, I sincerely hope to offer listeners a sense of calm and relaxation, even if only for a brief moment.
Seiko Iwama
英国王立音楽院（ Royal Academy of Music） 大学院卒。 4歳でピアノ開始。5 歳で PTNAコンペティション全国大会奨励賞受賞 (A2級)。
B 級でPTNA コンペティション全国大会奨励賞受賞。
英国の大学院で英語教授法（TESOL）を勉強中、偶然 90 歳位のご夫婦の前でピアノを演奏する。ご夫婦が 20 分くらい涙を流し続けて下さった経験から、もし聴いて下さる 方の心を癒せるならピアノを演奏したいと思う。
また、英語教授法（TESOL）コースの大学院の恩師や、ロンドンフィルハーモニーの クラリネット奏者から、英国王立音楽院を勧められ、大学院ピアノ演奏科を受験し、飛び級で合格。70 分演奏の最終試験を含める 全ての試験に合格し、英国王立音楽院大学院ディプロマコースピアノ演奏科修了。
カンタベリー大聖堂、ロンドン、マンチェスターなど英国各地で多数のコンサートこなす。日本でも銀座王子ホールをはじめ、数々のリサイタルを行う。
クラシック曲の他、ふと曲が浮かんでくる時に作曲を行う。コンサートで自作曲を演奏するごとに観客から CDの依頼があり、カンタベリーにて、CDをリリース。自作曲の楽譜「Mercury 岩間靖子作曲集１」を出版。
これまでに、ピアノを、大貫忠次氏、川島洋子氏、パツィー・トウ氏、クリストファー・エルトン氏、小川典子氏、アリシア・フィダキエヴィチ氏に師事。
音楽活動以外に、栃木県立栃木女子高等学校卒業。法政大学文学部英文学科卒業。商社勤務、留学費用を貯めた後、渡英。英国国立カンタベリ―クライストチャーチ大学大学院修士課程 英語教授法(TESOL)専攻修了。書籍「－世界に通じる－心を動かす英会話力」を出版。日本英語コミュニケーション学会理事。
ピアニスト・作曲家としての活動に加え、岩間靖子音楽英語教室を主宰し、「音楽と英語を融合した教育と心を育む」 をテーマにスマイルコースを開講。國學院大学栃木二杉幼稚園にて導入・指導を行う他、宇都宮短期大学、宇都宮共和大学の講師を経て、現在は、栃木県立衛生福祉大学校講師として後進の指導にもあたっている。
Profile
Seiko Iwama began learning the piano at the age of four. By the age of eight, she was the fourth best child pianist at a nationwide piano competition called PTNA in Japan.
Originally, she went to the UK to study Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and acquire a MA degree in Canterbury. It was there in the summer of 2005 that one of her performances of her own compositions had such an effect that one old couple were moved to tears for about 20 minutes. The lady said that Seiko' s compositions were the most beautiful music she had ever heard. The following day, the couple brought Seiko a potted flower and a letter saying: 'we are grateful of your kindness, thank you'. This experience inspired her to concentrate more on studying the piano. It now seemed a real possibility that her music might act as a means of healing people like the old couple on whom it had such a positive effect.
In December 2005, she was accepted as a postgraduate student at the Royal Academy of Music in London, being one of the few candidates to be given a place. She completed her study, receiving a postgraduate diploma in performance of piano at the Royal Academy of Music.
Again and again audiences were moved to tears and began asking her to make a CD. She subsequently recorded 13 of her own compositions. This CD was released in the UK and Japan. The second CD called ‘The Shining Earth’ was also released.
The sheet music of her compostions titled 'Mercury: Composer Seiko Iwama Piano Pieces, Vol1' has been published.
She studied piano with Chuji Onuki, Yoko Kawashima, Patsy Toh, Christopher Elton, Noriko Ogawa, and Alicja Fiderkiewicz.
Alongside her music career, she completed a Master’s degree in TESOL at Canterbury Christ Church University. She has also authored the book 'English Conversation Skills That Move Hearts and Connect with the World'.
She currently continues to perform in concerts while also teaching.

I am pleased to report that I successfully held the 2nd Seiko Iwama Piano Charity Recital on February 1, 2026.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who attended the recital, as well as to Tochigi City, the Board of Education, the Tochigi Mirai Development Foundation, and all the halls and staff who supported this event. I am deeply thankful for the many forms of assistance and cooperation that made this recital possible.
After deducting expenses, I donated all net proceeds from the recital—including ticket sales, congratulatory gifts, and charitable donations—on February 3, 2026.
The total amount of 210,000 yen was equally distributed as follows:
105,000 yen to the Tochigi Goichi Scholarship Fund
105,000 yen to the Tochigi Mirai Development Foundation
I am honored to have been able to contribute to the education and development of children and young people. I sincerely appreciate your continued support and kindness, and I will continue to dedicate myself to my musical activities and social contributions.

On Saturday, February 22, 2025, a certificate presentation ceremony was held for donations from the “Seiko Iwama Piano Charity Recital.” Certificates of appreciation were received from the Mayor of Tochigi City and the President of the Tochigi Prefecture Future Development Foundation. In addition, on Thursday, July 3, 2025, a ceremony was held at the Tochigi Prefectural Guest House, where a certificate of appreciation was received from the Governor of Tochigi Prefecture. A commemorative photo was also taken with the Governor. It is a great honor to receive these recognitions, and continued efforts will be made to contribute to children and society. These certificates were received on behalf of all those who supported, attended, and encouraged the recital.
